Welcome to the New Normal
Ghost’s real name is Sofia Barros, a 17-year student at Alamy Falls Academy for Gifted Girl. She is the daughter of the ambassador from Brazil and has been placed here in Alamy Falls for several reasons: one, she is very very smart; two, she was causing trouble in the other boarding schools she has been enrolled; and three, her father is attempting to encourage her to expand her artistic skills (an area that the Alamy Falls School for Gifted Girls excels at).
Sofia is a rebel, always acting out, preferring to push the boundaries of whatever role people put her in. Recently she has discovered role-playing games, and with the advent of Powers, comic books. She has bee hanging around the Gutter lately and finding that the people there, despite their lower class up bringing are surprisingly on the same mental and political level that she herself is.
During the Big Sleep recently in Alamy Falls, Sofia discovered that she herself had some sort of power. Some experimenting on the side and a lucky break revealed that she is a mentalist. As a lark, she has started calling herself Ghost, because when she takes possession of someone, she physically become insubstantial and takes on a ghostly form, merging with the person she is possessing.
Ghost is a power who has the psionic ability to take possession of the minds of other people or animals. She can control her subject’s actions and experience what the subject’s senses perceive. During the possession her subject’s higher brain functions revert to diminished levels, similar to their state in a dreamless sleep, and the subject is left with no memory of the actual possession.
When Ghost first takes possession of someone, she can only move her subject’s body awkwardly until she acclimates herself to her new host. If she remains in possession of a host for too long she will begin to think and act as her host would, and eventually her own personality would become subordinate to one identical to the host’s.
Currently, Ghost can not possess multiple subjects simultaneously. But it might become possible in the future with skill, luck, and training. When she does, if she does, she will find that her control over her subjects is fragmented as she shifts her attention from one to another. Possibly she will overcome this handicap as her experience in using her powers grows.
